If you’re looking for a way to earn some extra cash this fall, Elections Alberta is launching what it says is the largest electoral worker recruitment campaign in the province’s history.
The agency is looking to hire more than 60,000 paid workers to help run Alberta’s Oct. 19 referendum.
Positions include election officers, ballot counters, site supervisors, information officers and ballot box clerks, with paid training provided ahead of voting.
The massive hiring effort comes as Albertans prepare to vote on 10 referendum questions, each requiring its own colour-coded ballot. Elections Alberta says that means printing roughly 45 million ballots far more than the 1.8 million ballots cast during the 2023 provincial election.
Chief Electoral Officer Gordon McClure is encouraging Albertans across the province, especially those in rural communities, to apply. Residents who are at least 16 years old and eligible to work can submit an application now, with successful candidates expected to be notified beginning in mid-July. Apply here.
Advance voting begins Oct. 13, while ballot counting is expected to continue until Oct. 21 following referendum day on Oct. 19.
