Community members gathered at Churchill Square for the Samuel Bird Memorial Walk to celebrate the life and memory of Samuel Bird. The event brought many people together in remembrance while promoting healing, reflection, and community connection.
Supporters who took part in Monday’s walk marched from Sir Winston Churchill Square to Dawson Park, chanting, “No justice, no peace.”
Samuel, who was 14 at the time of his death, went missing on June 1, 2025, after he left his west Edmonton home to visit a friend.
On Oct. 16, 2025, EPS announced that Samuel’s remains had been located in a rural area outside of Edmonton.
Bryan Farrell was charged with second-degree murder and interfering with a body in relation to Samuel’s homicide.
Farrell remains in custody. He elected for a trial by judge and jury on March 19, and a preliminary inquiry is scheduled for Nov. 16 to 18.
Alanna Bird, Mother of the late Samuel Bird, tells CFWE that the event is about more than honouring her son – it also recognizes missing and murdered Indigenous children and supports grieving families through community solidarity.
A feast was also held Monday afternoon at Dawson Park. For more details on the Samuel Bird Memorial Walk, click here.
