May 14 is Moose Hide Campaign Day, an Indigenous-led initiative that calls on people across Canada to take a stand against violence toward women and children.
Man events will be taking place across the country in solidarity with the initiative, including in Fort Saskatchewan.
People looking to show their support are being invited to gather at West River’s Edge from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The Fort Saskatchewan event aims to bring together Indigenous and non-Indigenous residents, Elders and youth, elected officials, and families in a shared commitment to change.
Cultural programming will include contributions from Alicia Cardinal and Gwen Sampson, including hoop dancing and education rooted in Indigenous traditions.
The Moose Hide Campaign encourages participants, especially men and boys, to commit to ending violence.
Organizer Tiffany Connauton spoke with Darrell Stranger and said the event is about more than awareness.
Residents interested in attending are encouraged to confirm in advance to be included in a community meal.
Details on the event and registration can be found here.
