A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck Central Alberta on Saturday morning, according to official data from Earthquakes Canada.
The earthquake occurred at 9:05 a.m. near the Lac La Biche/Smoky Lake region.
Three other quakes in the area have been felt since the start of this month, including a 4.5-magnitude one on April 1 near Gibbons which was confirmed to be related to the oil and gas industry.
On April 8, a 3.7-magnitude earthquake was recorded 15 kilometres northwest of Gibbons. Another 3.2-magnitude earthquake 10 kilometres north of the town happened April 3.
The Alberta Geological Survey has Saturday’s quake listed as ‘known induced.’
