330 Alberta athletes will travel to Whitehorse to compete in the 2026 Arctic Winter Games (AWG), running March 8-15, that will feature over 20 sport competitions, and culture intertwined throughout the AWG.
Tracey Bilsky, President of the 2026 Arctic Winter Games Host Society tells CFWE that Whitehorse is excited to finally host the AWG after the 2020 event was cancelled due to the pandemic.
Bilsky hopes the games will bring athletes together to learn about each other’s cultures while competing in more than 20 sports, such as Alpine skiing, Basketball, Hockey, and more.
Bilsky says community members can attend the sports, along with the opening and closing ceremonies, at no cost, and is encouraging everyone to come out and support the visiting athletes.
