An 11-Year-Old from Devon is using a ‘WE MATTER Indigenous Youth Grant’ to launch jigging classes, teaching local youth this vibrant Métis dance and connecting them to their culture.
Krissy Bird, mother and spokesperson for the jigging classes, tells CFWE she’s thrilled to see her son, Kalen Bird, bring the program to life, with sessions starting on November 20 and 27 at the Riverview Middle School.
Bird shares her son’s jigging journey, which started during the pandemic, and explains how his passion for dance inspired him to bring jigging classes to his community.
Bird talks about her son partnering with Savanah Hamelin to help teach local youth how to jig and bring Kalen’s vision to life.
