Shane Bair is the fire chief and director of emergency operations for the Beaver Lake Cree Nation Fire Department in Treaty 6. He was recently recognized for his hard work and dedication with an Indigenous Achievement Award from the Lac La Biche Canadian Friendship Centre.
Bair received the honour at the Friendship Centre’s annual Indigenous Achievement Awards Banquet.
The Beaver Lake fire chief said it feels great to know that the work firefighters from the community put in is being acknowledged.
Bair says the department has dedicated members who want to give back to their communities. Beaver Lake Fire does interior attack firefighting, and the department trains to the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards. The department has won Indigenous Firefighter competitions and has sent members to national competitions.
For firefighters with the Beaver Lake Cree Nation Fire Department, along with members of council, have maintained that the safety of the Nation is one of the highest priorities.
The 2025 edition of the event took place at the Bold Centre.
