Hillgrove School will be closed on Friday due to a possible threat made to the school, according to an email that went out to parents on Thursday afternoon.
School staff received information on Thursday of a “vague but could possibly be interpreted as a threat to our school on Friday,” according to an email from the St. Albert Public School’s district office.
“As such, in consultation with the RCMP and out of an abundance of caution, classes will be cancelled tomorrow, Friday, April 21,” the email read.
“The RCMP have launched an investigation, and while we can’t share many details with you because of this ongoing investigation, please be assured that as part of our commitment to ensuring a safe learning environment, we take all issues that may affect school and student safety seriously.”
The school asks families that are facing significant childcare challenges on Friday to email hillgrove@spschools.org and they will work with them to find a solution.
The school board is asking for those with questions and concerns to leave a message on the school voicemail (780.459.4456) or email hillgrove@spschools.org and a member of the school team will reach out as soon as possible.
The school will be closed on Friday and staff will be working offsite. Police will be at the school if it is reopened on Monday.
RCMP did not say specifically what the threat was.
