On Sept. 3, 2025 at approximately 12:36am, Wood Buffalo RCMP and Regional Emergency Services responded to a call for two residential house fires located at Lot 204 and Lot 477 on Chipewyan Prairie First Nation (Janvier). Upon arrival to the residences, both were engulfed in flames. One residence was completely destroyed. The other sustained significant property damage before the fire was extinguished. There were no residents in either residence at the time of the fires and no reported injuries. Its alleged both fires were intentionally set.
Wood Buffalo RCMP arrested a suspect at the scene. A 20-year-old female resident of Chipewyan Prairie First Nation remains in Police custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release Hearing.
RCMP and Forensic Identification Section are continuing to investigate the fires.
