A 35 year old man has been arrested and charged after he tried to run from police, alerting residents to a shelter-in-place on Friday night for people living in Calling Lake.
Athabasca RCMP were called to a home invasion on August 17 at 11:10 p.m., where armed and masked suspects broke into a home. During the break in, 40 year old Edward Young was shot and killed.
RCMP Major Crimes was called in and Terris Cardinal, a resident of Calling Lake, was arrested that night at a home in the community.
Cardinal has been charged with second-degree murder, breaking and entering; and multiple firearm offences. Mounties said he was also wanted on a Canada-wide warrant at the time. Cardinal has been remanded into custody, police confirmed, and is set to appear in court in Athabasca on September 2.
