An employee of the Edmonton Valley Zoo was taken to hospital after being bitten by a Burmese python Tuesday morning.
The employee received first aid immediately from other members of the team and EMS was contacted at 8:19am
The woman, in her 30s, was taken to hospital in stable, non-life-threatening condition and is “doing well”
In a statement, the zoo said that All of their reptiles are non-venomous, and emergency protocols are in place and were followed.
The snake, known as Lucy, has been at the zoo since December 2016 and “has not previously demonstrated any aggressive behaviour.”
Lucy was donated to the zoo by Alberta Fish and Wildlife.
