Charges are pending after a suspect was arrested for allegedly tampering with a sprinkler system set up to protect an area of homes affected with the wildfires east of Redwater. In a news release, Mounties say the suspect was causing them to be “inactive”. Sturgeon County is still in a state of local emergency, due to the out of control wildfire – the fire is measured to be around 3200 hectares in size.
RCMP are reminding all evacuees to check in at the Morinville Leisure Centre, or by phone at (780) 570-6610. Sturgeon County itself remains under a fire ban, meaning no outdoor fires of any kind. That includes fireworks, recreational firepits, burn barrels, incinerators or charcoal/pellet barbeques.
