Drivers going through the Grande Prairie area over the weekend are being advised of a large, slow load moving from Edmonton that will cause delays through the next couple days.
Officials say that due to the large size and weight, the load will be travelling at a maximum of 30km/h. Guide vehicles will be on the roads, and it is expected to take up the entire width of the highway. The load could occasionally travel against the flow of traffic, blocking lanes when needed.
The load will depart from Edmonton on March 8th, using major highways including Highway 22 and Highway 43, before reaching its destination near Grande Prairie on March 11.
An Amine contractor tower is being transported to be used in the oil refining process. It weighs more than 541 kilograms, including support equipment.
Drivers are asked to watch for guide vehicles and flag people, as the load will be guided by three vehicles to close intersections as needed, and at times will be guided by police.
You can find the full list of stops and the travel route on the province’s website.
