Ice sculptures are just one of many artist showcases at this year's festival
Alberta Avenue is set to host Edmonton’s first festival of the year with the return of Deep Freeze, a Byzantine Winter Festival that officially kicks off at noon on Saturday January 18th.
The free, fun for all family festival is marking their 18th year with the theme of Barnyard Blitz, a tribute to Alberta’s rustic charm and heritage.
Deep Freeze program team lead Jessi Toms touched on the success of the festival.
The festival has plenty to offer from fun activities like the deep freezer races to live musical performances and artistic showcases as well as plenty of great food options and even a petting zoo.

While the festival is free to attend, donations are always welcomed. Volunteers are also still needed and anyone interested can register on the festival’s website.
