Shoppers are in for a treat as the Indigenous Holiday Market, presented by I AM Collective, is set to take place at the TELUS World of Science on December 15. The market showcases a variety of handcrafted goods, art, and more, all created by local Indigenous artisans.
Lorrie Lawrence, executive director of I AM Collective spoke with CFWE about what attendees can expect with the 23 artisans that will be on location for Christmas Shoppers.
Lawrence goes on to say that artisan markets I AM Collective hosts is working with supporting local and introducing to the public of hand crafted Indigenous work, with over 65 percent of their income goes directly back into the local economy, along with small businesses and entrepreneurs being supported by community.
Lawrence is hopeful that shoppers have a better understanding, appreciation and appropriation of Indigenous made products, and to feel safe to wear and purchase Indigenous crafted items from local artisans, along with sharing their stories and businesses with others in the community.
