A 23 year old old from Fort McMurray is facing charges after an early morning incident on Tuesday.
At around 5am, Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a suspicious person, possibly armed, in the 100 block of Spruce Street in Thickwood.
Upon arrival, officers entered a local apartment building, where they heard gunfire.
According to RCMP, members moved closer to the apartment believed to be the source of the shots, additional rounds were discharged. Police quickly secured the area to ensure public safety. Shortly after, a male suspect attempted to evade capture by jumping from an exterior balcony. He was promptly arrested by officers without further incident.
Brandon Power of Fort McMurray has been charged with discharging a firearm with intent, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and three counts of failing to comply with a release order condition.
No injuries were reported in the area as a result of the gunfire.
