Edmonton Oilers Captain Connor McDavid became the fourth-fastest player in NHL history to reach 1,000 points when he scored at 2:44 of the second period in the Oilers 3-2 overtime win against the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
On a 2-on-1 rush with Leon Draisaitl, McDavid buried a one-timer from the right circle for the milestone. He notched another point with an assist on Darnell Nurse’s game-winning goal at 2:32 of overtime.
The 27-year-old center hit the milestone in his 659th NHL game. Only Wayne gretzky (424 games), Mario Lemieux (513), and Mike Bossy (656) did it faster.
McDavid has 341 goals and 660 assists in his 10 NHL seasons. He has 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) in 14 games this season, including nine points (three goals, six assists) in his past three games.
An emotional McDavid spoke to reporters following the game.
