On Monday, November 4, Portage College will host a Treaty 6 flag-raising ceremony at the St. Paul Campus, reaffirming the College’s dedication to reconciliation and honouring Indigenous histories, cultures, and partnerships.
Starting at 10am, the Treaty 6 flag will be permanently displayed alongside the Métis, Alberta and Canadian flags, serving as a lasting symbol of Portage College’s commitment to respectful and inclusive collaboration with Indigenous communities. The flag will be a visible reminder of the College’s recognition of Treaty 6 lands and the shared journey toward truth and reconciliation.
“Raising the Treaty 6 flag is more than a gesture—it’s a powerful message about who we are and who we strive to become,” said Carrie Froehler, Vice President of People and Culture. “Our commitment is ongoing, and this event reflects our goal to build a community where Indigenous cultures are respected, celebrated, and woven into the fabric of our institution.”
The ceremony will also feature remarks from Portage College leadership, Elders, and Indigenous community members, bringing voice to the values and traditions upheld by Treaty 6.
