As temperatures drop, the Mustard Seed locations are gearing up to meet a rising demand for warmth and shelter among houseless communities across the province of Alberta. With winter fast approaching, staff are preparing to offer critical support and resources to those in need.
Dave Conrad, Senior Director of Community and Volunteer Engagement with the Mustard Seed spoke with CFWE on the locations in Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary as they find ways to keep the houseless community in a warm safe space, such as the 24 hour winter warming center in Calgary along with the other shelters opened 24 hours to help direct people to services they need.
Conrad adds that since Spring of this year, the Mustard Seed locations across the province have been at and over compacity of the houseless community, with 600 guests in the Red Deer, 250 in Edmonton and 650 guests in Calgary.
