Oilers start four game road trip with a win in Detroit

The Edmonton Oilers have now hit .500 (4-4-1) with a road victory in the Motor City Sunday afternoon.  Leon Draisaitl scored his second goal of the game 18 seconds into overtime and the Edmonton Oilers beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2.

Evan Bouchard scored the other goal for the Oil, while backup Calvin Pickard made 25 shots en-route to his second victory of the young season. Connor McDavid and defenceman Mattias Ekholm each chipped in with two assists.

Head Coach Kris Knoblauch spoke to media following the victory discussing Draisaitl’s contributions with his 3 points, on his birthday.

Calvin Pickard has provided some crucial stability in the backup role and has found success in Detroit, securing his second straight victory in their building.

Up next for the Oilers will be a matchup with the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at 5pm, before travelling to Nashville for a Halloween game with the Predators at 6pm.
