The Kehewin Cree Nation took another step forward in developing their nation with the grand opening of a new ‘Travel Centre’ gas station.
The center, located off Alberta Highway 41 and Highway 657, gives consumers an opportunity to rest, fuel up, get food and other necessities.
The community has a population of over 1,100 people on the nation and 1,200 off nation.
With hundreds gathering on the opening day, Chief Trevor John spoke to CFWE about how pleased he was to see all the smiling faces. He took some time to mention the location, saying this will generate lots of revenue to ensure their community can preserve longstanding cultural traditions.
The opening of the travel center is one of the many developments the nation has completed, most recently, Chief John said the community has a new state of the art water plant providing clean drinking water for him and his community members, something they haven’t had for years.
Chief John also mentioned the possibility of using their new Pow-Wow Arbour for a winter season Pow-Wow.
