Starting on November 9, riders of the Edmonton Transit System won’t be able to buy paper passes and tickets.
ETS is furthering the move towards ARC, the regional electronic fare payment system. Since 2022, the service has been rolling out Arc in stages. With ARC, you’ll have to load money onto a card using a credit card, debit card or cash. You can also put funds onto the ARC cards online, by phone, at an ARC vending machine or at an in-person service centre or retail outlet.
Cash fares will continue to be accepted on buses.

ARC cards are a good idea, the only problem is they work on average 50% of the time. I see people tapping on and the card makes the “accepted ” beep, then when tapping off it wont beep or it gives the “rejected ” beep. Or…it doesn’t beep when tapped on or off. It needs work before it’s released. Also, a lot of people don’t know to tap off, they just tap on.
Cheers.
