This morning marked the unveiling of the artwork of Karlliea Wood in St. Albert, a crosswalk near the downtown bearing the words “Every Child Matters”.
St. Albert Mayor Cathy Heron says, it’s important to honor the city’s history with Indigenous Peoples.
Guests in attendance include residential school Survivors and community members; Alexander First Nation Chief George Arcand Jr., representing the Confederacy of Treaty No. 6 First Nations; St. Albert Sturgeon County Métis Local 1904 leadership; representatives from the Métis Nation of Alberta.

St. Albert City Councilor Mike Killick was there showing support for the cause and says, the city stands with the Indigenous peoples.
Paul Kane High School student Dejah Howes tells the story of how it hasn’t always been easy to identify as being First Nations.
