The Edmonton Elks secured win #4 on the season after beating their provincial rival Calgary Stampeders on the road for the annual Labour Day Classic, 35-20.
Tevin Jones caught a pair of touchdown passes from quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, Eugene Lewis also had a touchdown while backup QB Dakota Prukop ran in another for the Elks.
Edmonton got the ‘monkey off their back’ with this victory, after losing the previous two Labour Day Classic games and 10 of the last 11 to Calgary.
QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson has had an up and down season with the Elks, being benched for Tre Ford earlier in the season, now starting again for the injured Ford, spoke to media following the win about the teams resilience this season.
Bethel-Thompson completed 25 of 36 passes, airing it out for 486 yards and 3TD’s, Tevin Jones went over 200 yards on the day with just 5 catches, Kurleigh Gittens Jrr had 115 yards and Geno Lewis had 112 yards in the victory.
MBT touched on the selflessness in the receiver room after the win.
The Elks will look for win #5 on the year when they face off against the Calgary Stampeders (4-7) on Saturday in back end of home-and-home series.
