The City of Edmonton and Confederacy of Treaty Six Nations gathered together for a flag raising ceremony at City Hall to commemorate Treaty Six Recognition Day in Edmonton.
Chief George Arcand Jr of Alexander First Nation says the recognition of Treaty Six by the City of Edmonton is a beginning of a new path of understanding and Reconciliation to work together to create a better tomorrow.
Chief Arcand adds that many citizens from Treaty Six reside within the City of Edmonton, with the relationships that are continuing to be built with the 17 Nations, is a step towards a strong way that First Nations are part of the solution of building a City of Edmonton for Treaty Six people.
Chief Arcand says he believes that after the signing of Treaty Six 150 years ago, for the City of Edmonton to recognize the relationship with Treaty Six Nations is vital for a longer term and a more respectful way with the ceremony at City Hall being a prime example of showing respect.
