Kikino Métis Settlement announced it’s completed build of the largest Métis Wagon in the province within it’s community, to attract tourists and to showcase the Métis culture to visiting tourists.
Lee Thom, Kikino Métis Settlement Band Council Member spoke with CFWE about the year long process of a concept from a father and son welding Native Arts team that approached Kikino Métis Settlement about the Wagon, after receiving a provincial Cultural grant, the construction began in the Spring with the Wheels taking shape in the beginning of August.
Thom speaks on the symbolism and meaning behind the Métis Wagon and the rich history it represents that can learn from when checking out the Wagon in Kikino.
Thom says there is a sense of pride felt within the community and the tourism that the Wagon will bring towards Kikino, along with looking in the direction of working with Alberta Tourism to bring more eyes and people to the community.
