Canadian Blood Services (CBS) is reaching out to the public in hopes of fighting the blood and plasma shortages.
According to a statement from the organization, hospitals demands for blood and blood products are on the rise while donations have taken a hit. Only one in two Canadians are eligible to donate blood, however they only see one out of 76 people donating.
People with blood types O-negative, O-positive or B-negative are asked to donate as soon as possible.
CBS’s goal is to fill as many appointments as they can this long weekend to ensure every Canadian has access to the blood they need.
