The Edmonton Police have laid charges on a 30-year-old man who was involved in a pedestrian collision that killed a three-year-old boy and injured his mother and sister in the neighborhood of Allard in south Edmonton last month.
On June 27 around 5 p.m. EPS responded to a call regarding a pedestrian collision in the area of Allard Road SW and Allard Boulevard SW. Police said a 2019 Ford F150 pickup truck was heading north on Allard Road SW when it stopped quickly at a three-way stop at Allard Boulevard SW.
The truck stopped quickly at the three-way stop turning west striking a 39-year-old woman and her two children, a seven-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy who were walking on the southside of the intersection. The mother and her daughter were struck by the vehicle while the woman’s three-year-old son was ran over by the vehicle and succumbed to his injuries.
Police said the driver of the vehicle was heading north when he briefly stopped at the intersection and continued turning left resulting in running over the three-year-old boy and striking the woman and her daughter.
The boy died at the scene. The mother and her daughter were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and were later released.
The driver did not report any injuries and stayed on scene when police arrived. At the time police concluded alcohol or drugs were not factors in the fatality.
Zhaobo Wu, was charged with careless driving and three counts of failing to yield to a pedestrian under the Traffic Safety Act on Saturday, the Edmonton Police Service issued in a news release on Monday.
