26 women from across Canada are competing at this year’s Miss Indigenous Canada pageant in Ontario this weekend.
Three contestants are from Alberta, including Meghan Breen (Sturgeon County), Mya McDowell (Bushe River ) and Taylor Bottle (Blood Tribe First Nation)
Miss Indigenous Canada is not a beauty pageant, it focuses more on things like character, community service and cultural involvement.
Contestants are assessed in four categories: an interview, personal essay, traditional presentation and community presentation.
The pageant runs July 25-27 at the gathering place by the grand in Ohsweken, Ontario
