Multiple wildfires in Jasper National Park all heated up late Monday night, forcing park visitors along with 4,700 residents of the Jasper townsite to leave with very little notice.
Evacuees were told they had five hours to clear out by 3am on Tuesday and to bring key documents such as pets, and medication
Social media showed almost an apocalyptic scene with bumper to bumper traffic, red tail lights glowing in the smoke and flames.
Mike Ellis is the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services and spoke to the province earlier this morning providing an update on the Jasper Wildfire.
At this point, travel is not recommended west of Hinton.
The Jasper fires were one of multiple fires throughout Alberta that have already forced another 7,500 people out in a string of remote communities.
