One man is in critical but stable condition following an officer involved shooting on Whyte Avenue late Tuesday night.
At approximately 12 a.m. on Wednesday July 17, 2024 Edmonton Police responded to a weapons complaint in the area of 93 street and Whyte Avenue to reports of a man pointing a gun at a civilian and waving it in the air.
Upon arrival, EPS members observed the man pointing what appeared to be a gun, at a transit bus. Following a confrontation, an Edmonton Police officer shot the man.
The man was taken in to custody and by police and first aid was performed. EMS then treated and transported the man to hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.
A replica hand gun was found on scene. No other civilians of officers were injured.
The East end of Whyte Avenue near 93 Street and 83 Avenue was taped off this morning.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating.
