A fire that broke out in a northeast Edmonton apartment building has left two people in critical condition according to Alberta Health Services.
On Saturday evening, just before 8 p.m. fire crews were called to Hermitage Road and Huffman Crescent at Christopher County Apartments in northeast Edmonton where thick plumes of smoke could be seen.
Upon arrival, Edmonton Fire and Rescue Services were greeted with heavy flames, visible from the buildings roof. A total of 15 crews were called to the scene according to an EFRS email.
The fire was deemed under control just before midnight.

One adult and one senior were taken to hospital and listen in critical condition according to an Alberta Health Services representative. Additionally, three adults were also taken to hospital and listed in stable condition. Several pets are confirmed as missing as per social media posts.
Fire investigators were on scene during Sunday morning hours and the extent of the building damages were visible including burnt balconies and large portions of the roof missing.
Many of the buildings units have since been deemed inhabitable.

No word on the cause of the fire or estimated damages as of yet.
