After their first Stanley Cup Final game since 2006, the Edmonton Oilers will look to rebound after losing the opener 3-0 to Florida Saturday night.
The Oilers had scoring chances aplenty but couldn’t solve Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky who made 32 saves on route to victory. Game 2 between the Oil and Panthers will be later tonight with puckdrop set for 6pm.
Following the loss, the Oilers locker room maintained a positive mindset, forward Ryan Nugent Hopkins spoke to media and mentioned how they can’t undermine that game 1 performance or let the loss linger.
While Edmonton believes they shouldn’t be discouraged from their start in the series, head coach Kris Knoblauch knows the Panthers are going to play much better than game 1 and has been preaching that to his locker room over the last few days.
Florida Head Coach, Paul Maurice has seen alot of NHL action behind the bench, accumulating 1848 games over his 26 year career, attempting to win the cup on his third trip to the finals. Twice with the Panthers and once with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2002. During his illustrious career, Maurice says McDavid and Draisaitl continue to dazzle him every time he watches them play and mentioned you can never take them lightly.
Winger Matthew Tkachuk spoke to reporters following their win acknowledging their whole group can play better, Maurice spoke to that statement and about Bobrovsky’s consistency.
Edmonton Oilers panelist Bob Stauffer posted a possible preview of the Oilers game 2 lineup.
