June 6th is Blue Jean Jacket Day. A day to create awareness on the important issue of missing and murdered and exploited men and boys.
Organized by Stephanie Harpe and April Eve, the 2nd annual event taking place in downtown Edmonton.
Indigenous men and boys are at risk of human trafficking and labour trafficking, where Indigenous men are hired at lower rates and put in dangerous situations, and both Harpe and Eve want to make sure those voices are heard and awareness grows.
April Eve spoke to CFWE about their hopes of raising awareness through the 2nd annual event.
Anyone attending the event in downtown Edmonton is asked to wear blue and a jean jacket in solidarity if able. Eve continued by saying this initiative has been in the works for more than a decade.
