The Alberta Government is providing funding to build the Grande Prairie Recovery Community giving more northern Albertans an opportunity to pursue recovery through the Alberta Recovery Model.
The Alberta Recovery Model is a system of care focused on supporting people suffering from addiction or mental health challenges in their pursuit of recovery.
With an investment of up to $35 million, the Alberta Government is building a recovery community in Grande Prairie to serve northern Alberta with more access to life-saving addiction treatment.
Todd Loewen, MLA for Central Peace-Notley and Minister of Forestry and Parks says the new treatment center provides an opportunity for those in addiction to change their lives.
Dan Williams, the Alberta Minister of Mental Health and Addiction says the government worked to remove barriers therefore Albertans can have access to treatment.
The facility will offer 50 long-term treatment beds, allowing clients to stay for up to a year. During their stay, they will have access to counselling, opioid agonist treatment medications, as well as support for skill development, employment, financial aid, and housing. The treatment will be provided free of charge to all Albertans, with the aim of eliminating barriers to care.
Building the new recovery community in Grande Prairie will provide crucial access to addiction and mental health supports for northern Albertans. Nolan Dyck, the MLA for Grande Prairie says this facility has the potential for positive change.
The Grande Prairie facility will serve as a hub for northern Alberta, allowing patients to seek treatment closer to home so they don’t need to travel to Edmonton or Calgary.

Construction of the Grande Prairie Recovery Community is expected to be complete by early 2027 and accept the first clients shortly after.
