A motor vehicle collision has claimed the life of a 26-year-old man in North East Edmonton Tuesday morning.
Edmonton Police received the call at approximately 5:20 a.m.
The collision took place near the area between 66 Street and 68 Street near 144 Avenue near M.E. Lazerte High School.
It was reported that a grey Pontiac Grand Prix was travelling eastbound on 144 Street when it collided with a pole situated between 66 and 67 street.
Major Collision officers have determined that the vehicle had been stolen approximately 5 minutes before the collision occurred.
The area between 66 Street and 68 Street has been closed as a result while Edmonton Police Investigate, and debris is cleared from the area.
Police believe speed to be a key factor in the collision.
Motorists travelling through this area should expect delays during their morning commute.
The road is expected to re-open around noon.
