A Sunday Morning collision which resulted in two vehicles being written off is being deemed as an impaired incident according to EPS.
Early Sunday, May 12, 2024, at approximately 5:45 a.m., EPS members responded to two-vehicle collision just inside City of Edmonton boundaries near Whitemud Drive and 223 Street.
It was reported to police that a GMC Sierra pick-up truck was westbound on Whitemud Drive past Winterburn road (approximately 223 street), when the GMC crossed the center dividing line and collided with an oncoming Toyota Camry.
The 28-year old male driver of the Camry was transported to hospital by paramedics with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. A female passenger was also taken to hospital for precautionary reasons. A second female passenger of the Camry was treated by paramedics and released on scene.
Upon arrival, EMS found a 44-year-old female and 29-year-old male on scene outside of the Sierra. Two males, ages 23 and 19, who were also travelling in the Sierra, initially fled the scene and were located shortly thereafter in an adjacent neighborhood after calling 911 for EMS assistance.
All parties of the truck were transported to hospital for assessment with no major injuries noted at this time.
EPS Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) has since taken over the file.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the identity of the Sierra driver. Impairment is believed to be a factor in the collision. Both vehicles are considered write-offs.
