To recognize the day, the City of Grande Prairie has partnered with the four local museums to offer free admission for that day.
The Boreal Wetland Centre, Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum, Veterans Memorial Gardens & Interpretive Centre, and The Grande Prairie Museum will all be open from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. offering special feature exhibits and free cupcakes.
Special feature exhibits for Museum Day will include:
- The Boreal Wetland Centre: Interpretive trails – visitors are reminded to bring weather-appropriate clothing and footwear for unpaved walking trails.
- The Grande Prairie Museum: A Passing Fancy: Fashion through the Decades – showcasing clothing and hairstyle changes over the last 120 years including clothing and an antique hair salon.
- Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum: Dinosaurs Among Us exhibition – showcasing the most recent research into the relationship between dinosaurs and birds. (Dinosaurs Among Us is featured at the Museum until the end of summer)
- The Veterans Memorial Gardens & Interpretive Centre: D-Day & the Battle of Normandy: an Exhibition in Black & White – the exhibit includes images of the June 6, 1944, Normandy Landings and the Battle of Normandy from American and European Sources, originally curated by Alliance Francaise.
There will be Free shuttle service between all four museums offered throughout the day.
