Three Catholic Schools within the City of Edmonton were placed on alert Wednesday morning after a man was seen following a student into a school.
At approximately 9 a.m., Two men were seen following a student to Archbishop O’Leary Catholic High School in North-central Edmonton and one man continued, following the student inside the school.
The schools resource officer quickly arrested the man and was assisted by a resource officer from neighbouring St. Cecilia Junior High School, According to EPS spokesperson Cheryl Voordenhout.
Other officers in the vicinity heard the call on the radio and responded to the scene to assist; however, the SROs already had the suspect in custody.
As a result both schools were put on alert, along with nearby St. Matthew Elementary School at the request of responding officers.
Classes continue when an alert is issued, however, the school doors lock and no one can enter or exit the building.
A 36-year-old man was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest, and was released on an undertaking not to be in the area of the Catholic Schools at that location, according to EPS.
