The Kokums Helper Society and Niginan Housing Ventures are set to host their first annual Memorial Round Dance inside the Alberta Avenue Community Hall on April 13th.
The Round Dance which is supported by the Edmonton Heritage Council and the City of Edmonton is inviting many within the inner city of come out for a time of healing and to honour the Ancestors that have passed on.
Jackie DeCouteau-Gill, CEO and Founder of Kokums Helper Society says she’s excited to be hosting her first-ever big event within the city, with experience for loss, she is looking forward to honour her ancestors in a good way with the community.
DeCouteau-Gill says the Round Dance is very important within in the community, and adds that many will be excited to have a place to honour their loved ones that have passed on.
DeCouteau-Gill speaks on receiving a grant from the Edmonton Heritage Council that will aid in hiring 15 drummer groups for the Round Dance and is hopeful that singers and the community will come out and enjoy the night together.
