Several alleged gang members have been arrested in a northern Alberta community that remains under a state of local emergency that was declared in the face of rising violent crime and addictions issues.
During an operation in Wabasca-Desmarais earlier this month, Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team’s integrated gang enforcement team arrested four men who are believed to be members of street gang A$AP.
Dakota Auger, 29 and Sheldon Auger, 41 of Wabasca, are charged with drug trafficking and firearms offences.
Trinity Yellowknee, 26, and Christopher Yellowknee, 26, of Wabasca, are charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
A third suspect, Kyle Auger, 34, of Wabasca, is also facing drug-related offences.
According to Alert, A$AP, which stands for Always Strive and Prosper, is a street gang who are spread across northern and central Alberta, and correctional institutions. Their criminal activities are connected to drug trafficking, home invasions, robberies, stolen property, and are known to rely on violence.
“This operation makes it evident that the amount of effort and co-operation put forth by our local RCMP officers and ALERT has netted outstanding results. Working together, sharing intelligence, and developing enforcement strategies have made our community safer by taking drugs and guns off the street,” said Sgt. Colin Thorne, with Wabasca RCMP, in a statement.
