Nearly 5,000 city employees are poised to walk off the job thisThursday after weeks of negotiations with the city have left no other alternative.
The Civic Service Union (CSU) 52 released a statement early Monday morning saying it will serve a strike notice to the City along with the Public Library at 11am on Monday. The last collective agreement that was in place with the library, expired in December of 2020.
After the 72-hour notice period expires, picket lines will then be formed according to the union.
Approximately 950 library staff who are covered under a separate agreement, will join the 5,000 people represented by the union.
Positions within the union members include administrative and clerical workers such as 911 operators, technicians, DATS dispatchers, project managers, accountants and clerks.
The union has taken a firm stance as displayed on their website, but remains hopeful that the city will return to the table with a better offer.

Negotiations took a turn in January when the city ended mediation which then triggered a mandatory two-week cooling period.
The biggest factor in these negotiations is wages as workers affected by these talks have yet to see a pay increase since 2018.
