The Government of Alberta announced that it has committed to giving $8 million to a program that helps make sports and recreational activities more accessible and affordable for Alberta youth.
The money would go to the Every Kid Can Play program, with the goal of removing barriers for families in Alberta, and making kids’ sports and recreational activities more accessible and affordable.
Through the program, eligible families can apply to KidSport Alberta for support for their kids’ registration in sports and recreational activities.
Provincial and community non-profit organizations can also apply for funding to increase accessibility to sports and improve their recreation programs.
Executive director of KidSport Alberta, Kelly Oehlerking, said in 2023 the Alberta government launched the Every Kid Can Play program, which saw funding of over $3 million.
Funding will be available to families starting in June through KidSport Alberta.
