The 2024 Alberta Winter Games has arrived in the city of Grande Prairie.
Warren Nekurak, Indigenous Relations advisor for the City of Grande Prairie spoke with Windspeaker Radio Network about his excitement on the Indigenous representation that the AWG is showcasing throughout the event.

Nekurak says that when the children see the Indigenous content within the games, that it will show that they feel like it’s a home for them, and to create a more forward-thinking community to celebrate Indigenous people on the territory.

Nekurak says that the opening ceremonies will include local Indigenous artists performing for the athletes at inside the Bonnetts Energy Centre.
Nekurak hopes that Indigenous athletes will take away a sense of pride to be Indigenous, and a sense of being welcomed since time and memorial.
