Alberta will also form a Comprehensive Care Task Force in the new year, intended to provide recommendations including additional short-term actions to help family doctors continue to practice comprehensive care and bridge the gap until a new physician comprehensive care model is developed.
With Albertans facing long wait times at Emergency Room, and some without a family physician, there is hope as new funding promises to help family doctors over the next three years.
On Dec. 21, the Alberta Government signed an agreement with the Federal Government where funding of approximately $1.1 billion dollars over the next three years.
Alberta says it will use the money to increase access to primary care providers, improve diagnostic imaging capacity, enhance Albertans’ ability to access digital health services and expand integrated services for youth mental health.
President of the AMA Dr. Paul Parks shared at a press conference the three steps that will be the road map of improving Alberta’s Primary Healthcare system.
