Team Canada goes for gold when the 2024 World Junior Championship tournament begins on Boxing Day from Gothenburg, Sweden as Canada looks for a third straight gold medal for the first time since they won five in a row from 2005-2009.
The most notable change will be the absence of Connor Bedard as he has moved onto the NHL as the number one pick for the Chicago Blackhawks. Bedard lit it up last year as a young 16 year old on a team of mostly 19 year old’s and the youngest player in history to have a 4 goal game.
Another big factor being that this years event taking place over seas . The 48th edition of the IIHF World Junior Championship will take place in Sweden and appears to have almost a complete new set of faces for the team. With Russia still banned from the event it’ll be a three way toss up for the race to the gold between Canada, the U.S and host Sweden with honorable mentions going to Finland.
This years name to watch is Macklin Celebrini. The 17 year old from Vancouver is expected to follow Bedard’s steps and go number one in the 2024 NHL draft.
