The city of Edmonton and the lawyers for the coalition of justice and Humane Rights and The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) were in court on Monday discussing the clearing of eight high risk encampments within the city.
When the deal was made, conditions were implemented, with one of the conditions is for the Edmonton Police Service to ensure their sufficient space at the shelters.
Tim Pasma, director of programs for Homelessness at Hope Mission in Edmonton spoke with Windspeaker Radio Network about the agreement and the conditions that the city created, with Pasma adding that people in the encampments should have safe areas and support that’s needed.
Pasma believes that there is enough space, with plans to add additional spaces in January or February.
Pasma says their ultimate goal is to meet the need of the many that come to their doors that are in need of supports, and a safe place to receive treatment for mental health and addictions.
