The Métis Nation of Alberta has unveiled a brand new Youth Centre at 11821 123 St in Edmonton.
Métis youth aged 12-29 can access services to broaden their horizons and keep them engaged with cultural practices and delicious food.
They run a variety of programs across the province, including cultural enrichment programming, life skills programming, and a weekly youth group. Each of these programs is designed by their team to fit the unique needs of the youth within each region. The team is also responsible for developing and delivering large scale, province-wide events that aim to bring together youth from across Alberta.
Bailey Oster is the Director of Youth Programs and Services with the Métis Nation of Alberta and says this Youth Centre was in the works for the last year. She goes on to say incorporating Métis based art was a top priority to be a reminder to every youth using their services.
The goal of the drop in centre is to develop and deliver programs, services and events that meet the distinct needs of Métis youth across Alberta. Oster says there’s many Métis youth in the Edmonton area that need a place to stay, learn and grow personally and culturally.
