A magnitude 4 earthquake was reported near Grande Prairie on Sunday afternoon at 3:07 p.m.
According to Earthquakes Canada, the quake was located 64 kilometres eastsoutheast of the city at a depth of 10 kilometres.
There are so far no reports of damage or injuries.
Since 2023, Grande Prairie has had 291 quakes of magnitudes up to 4.6
Scientists who study the phenomena have said the area is known for seismic activity, but research is needed to determine whether any given event occurred naturally or as a result of human activity, including oil and gas extraction.
