Powerful overnight winds on Friday left some communities across Alberta in the dark after triggering widespread power outages.
Environment Canada had issued a yellow wind warning earlier, specifically warning that utility disruptions were likely as the storm system swept through the province.
Peak gusts reached 91 km/h around 3 a.m. in some areas before the agency cancelled the warning.
In Lethbridge, however, the winds were far more extreme, with recorded gusts slamming into 159 km/h.
Social media posts from the city show the extent of damage: a church roof ripped off and trees torn from the ground.
Residents still without power can track outages and restoration times on ATCO’s interactive outage map.
